we are “Green Leader”!

the “Global Innovation Summit” awarded fluvicon the title “Best Green Start-up” in 2021

that’s fluvicon

Our founder presents our technology and the market in a nutshell:

the Challenge

fresh water and waste water

Water is the issue of the 21st century.
You need fresh water for production? Or to secure your fresh water supply? For cooling tower applications or irrigation in the agricultural industry? You have to deal with waste water that needs to be treated? And these streams still contain valuable commodities that you want to recover? Than you probably already know that you’re facing a major challenge – like the majority of Fortune 500 companies. And this challenge gets harder every day: shrinking ressources, growing restrictions… Allow us to introduce you to the future of water treatment!

our Technology

Forward Osmosis

main principle

Our award winning technology is based on the principle of forward osmosis (FO) – not reverse osmosis (RO)! Thats the basic principle of every living cell. This way you can utilize the advantage that nature uses since billions of years:

advantages

✓ half the energy consumption
✓ excellent retention
✓ excellent robustness
✓ hardly any fouling and scaling
✓ very high reliability
✓ consistent treatment quality
✓ very simple operation
✓ very low maintenance
✓ resistant against most chemicals
✓ ph-tolerant over a wide scale
✓ ideal for rough applications

our core Technology

Unique features are two patented processes using the principle of forward osmosis. In contrast to every other membrane or filter process, Ionosmosis can be used to produce clean drinking water or industrial water from raw water of almost any consistency, i.e. dissolved components (e.g. salt, sugar, foreign ions) and undissolved components (e.g. oil, organic matter, suspended solids) are separated cleanly. Osmodialysis, on the other hand, enables the purification of salt water, e.g. the clean separation of oil and salt water, in a continuous membrane process.

the company

The Austrian fluvicon GmbH was founded in Leoben in 2013. The starting point was a research project on water treatment using forward osmosis, funded by the Styrian Business Promotion Agency (SFG). The spin-off was supported in the early stages by the Center for Applied Technology of the University of Leoben, the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and the EIT Raw Materials. After the successful proof of concept, the first patent was filed in 2016. In 2017, fluvicon entered into a strategic development partnership with a medium-sized German plant developer, as a result of which
two demonstration plants were created and a further patent was filed by fluvicon in 2018. Revenues have been generated so far by successful feasibility studies and field trials on behalf of various pilot customers and by a first commercial plant. fluvicon thus has two practical innovative technologies as well as specific know-how for water treatment and is now planning the broad step into the market.
The main shareholder, managing director and head of the company is the physicist Thomas Grießler. The fluvicon team currently consists of 12 people at the locations Graz (Austria) and Frickenhausen (Germany) as well as a supervisory board consisting of experts and strategic partners from business administration, industry and innovation management.
